Jindal Stainless and AB Energia commission Odisha’s largest captive solar power plant at Jajpur facility

Jindal Stainless, India’s leading stainless steel producer, and clean energy firm AB Energia Solutions Pvt. Ltd. have commissioned Odisha’s largest captive industrial solar power plant at the company’s Jajpur manufacturing unit. The project marks a significant step in Jindal’s journey towards Net Zero, with a combined capacity exceeding 30 MWp and the ability to generate 44.3 million units of green energy annually.

The innovative solar infrastructure includes a 7.324 MWp floating solar plant installed on an internal reservoir and a 23.02 MWp rooftop solar system spread across ten industrial buildings. This dual-format approach not only optimizes space but also minimizes water evaporation while reducing carbon emissions by 32,208 metric tonnes every year—equivalent to planting over 1,200 trees annually.

Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, emphasized the strategic importance of this move in achieving the company’s sustainability goals. He said the initiative aligns with global climate standards and reinforces Jindal’s commitment to a greener manufacturing future.

Siddharth Bhatia, MD of AB Energia, highlighted the project’s transformative potential in redefining how Indian industries approach decarbonization and energy efficiency. AB Energia, known for its bespoke solar EPC solutions, sees this partnership as a model for clean industrial transformation.

The Jajpur solar facility is expected to significantly reduce the plant’s reliance on grid electricity while boosting operational efficiency and cost stability. This is part of Jindal Stainless’ broader INR 700 crore commitment towards decarbonisation projects over the next five years.
