There’s no escape from the blistering heatwave sweeping through South Bengal. With temperatures soaring and no rain in sight, residents across Kolkata and nearby districts are bracing for even more discomfort in the coming days.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a heatwave alert has been issued for Bankura, Birbhum, and West Midnapore, as temperatures are expected to rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. The hot and dry conditions will likely persist over the next 2-3 days, with no significant rainfall expected in South Bengal. Although some isolated Kalbaisakhi (pre-monsoon thunderstorms) may occur, widespread showers remain unlikely.
In Kolkata, the oppressive heat has created a sweltering atmosphere, with the mercury steadily climbing throughout the day. The city continues to experience clear skies and rising temperatures, with no forecast of rain in the immediate future.
Meanwhile, North Bengal is witnessing a contrasting trend. Several districts in the region are set to experience rain and thunderstorms throughout the week. This is expected to bring temporary relief and cooler weather conditions in parts of North Bengal, unlike the parched situation in the south.
As the summer heat intensifies, the big question remains—when will the rain come to South Bengal and offer much-needed relief? For now, residents are advised to stay indoors during peak hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.
