US President Donald Trump expressed solidarity with India following the horrifying terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, April 23. In a post, Trump said, “Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all!”
The attack unfolded in the Baisaran valley of Pahalgam—a popular tourist spot—when a group of gunmen in fatigues opened fire on a group of visitors. One tourist, Manjunath from Shivamogga, Karnataka, lost his life in the incident, while at least 12 others sustained injuries. He was visiting the valley with his wife Pallavi and their son.
Pallavi’s emotional account of the tragedy has added to the national outrage. “It happened around 1:30 PM. We were at Pahalgam when three to four men attacked us. He died on the spot, in front of my eyes,” she recalled. She further claimed the attackers were targeting Hindus and recounted a chilling exchange: when she pleaded with the attackers to shoot her too, one reportedly said, “I won’t kill you. Go tell this to Modi.”
The comment has triggered intense reactions across the country, with many demanding justice and swift action.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “heinous act” and vowed that those responsible “will not be spared.” He added, “Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger.”
The incident is being investigated as one of the deadliest targeted attacks on civilians in the region in recent times. Security forces are conducting extensive combing operations in the area, while the injured are receiving treatment.
