The Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians on April 23, 2025, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, will witness solemn tributes following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. In a statement issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the cricketing body announced special measures as a mark of respect to the victims.
As per BCCI’s directive, players and umpires will wear black armbands during the game. A one-minute silence will also be observed before the match begins. Additionally, the usual festive elements of the IPL, including cheerleaders and fireworks, will be absent tonight in honor of those who lost their lives.
The tribute comes after at least 26 people were killed in a terror attack in Baisaran valley, Pahalgam. The tragedy has deeply affected the nation and prompted widespread condemnation and solidarity, including from top political and sports figures.
On the sporting front, the Mumbai Indians have found renewed form after a poor start, with three consecutive wins—including one over SRH at Wankhede. Meanwhile, SRH are languishing at the ninth spot with just four points from seven matches, making this a crucial fixture for their playoff hopes.
As cricket takes a backseat momentarily, both teams and fans will unite in remembrance and resilience ahead of tonight’s match.
